SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - A 24-year-old man has been arrested on alternate charges of murder and manslaughter for the Christmas Day death of an 18-month-old boy in Sioux Falls.
Sioux Falls police say a criminal complaint charges Manegabe Chebea Ally with alternate counts of first-degree murder, second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter. Circuit Judge Larry Long issued a bench warrant in the amount of $1 million for Ally's arrest.
Ally is now in police custody and is expected to make an initial court appearance at 1:30 p.m. Friday.
Emergency personnel responded to a call at a Sioux Falls apartment building Monday afternoon that the toddler was not breathing and had no pulse. The caller told dispatchers the boy had fallen.
The child was resuscitated in the apartment but died on Tuesday.
