There are growing concerns about a rising number of traffic deaths caused by drivers impaired by drugs other than alcohol.
So far this year, 18-percent of North Dakota's traffic fatalities have involved recreational drugs or prescriptions.
North Dakota has 45 officers who follow a special protocol to spot drivers who may be impaired, but who have not been drinking alcohol.
The state has been using the program for the past 13 years.
