Groups at NDSU want to make sure a North Dakota Army National Guard unit in Afghanistan is not forgotten.

Jeri Vaudrin with NDSU'S Veterans Upward Bound program is coordinating a letter writing campaign and collecting items to send to the 8-18th Engineer Company that lost two soldiers in a roadside bomb blast

Vaudrin says it all started when she learned some of members were not receiving support from home, "no letter or supplies coming in." She says the unit is isolated so everything has to be trucked in.

Prior to Christmas, hundreds of cards, letters, and 10 boxes of items were collected through groups at NDSU and Concordia and sent to the 8-18th.

Vaudrin is helping plan another mailing to the soldiers. If you'd like to help, contact Vaudrin as jeri.vaudrin@ndsu.edu or you can drop off your items at her office at Ceres Hall. The deadline is February 8.
