North Dakota State Senator Robert Erbele says he's lucky to be alive.

He was eating in the state capitol's cafeteria when he started chocking on a piece of bread.

Erberle, from Lehr, is a trained emergency medical technician and knew he was in trouble.

Colleagues eating with him panicked and yelled for help.

That's when freshman Representative Peter Silbernagel of Casselton sprang ito action.

Silbernagel says he learned how to do the Heimlich Maneuver year ago and as a result, he saved Erberle's life.
