North Dakota Opts Out Of Insurance Exchanges

North Dakota won't be running its own health insurance marketplace under the new federal health care law.

 

 

 

 

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - North Dakota won't be running its own health insurance marketplace under the new federal health care law.

North Dakota Department of Human Services director Maggie Anderson told federal officials Friday that the state isn't going to be setting up its own health care ``exchange.''

That means the federal government is likely to be running North Dakota's exchange when it is set up. That's supposed to happen before January 2014.

The exchanges are meant to offer a menu of subsidized health insurance plans for individual buyers and small businesses.

Gov. Jack Dalrymple says the state could run its own exchange later, after it's established.

But he says now there are too many questions about how a state exchange would be run and how much it would cost.
