Residents across southeast North Dakota and western Minnesota are digging out from a storm that dumped heavy snow.

The National Weather Service says just over 5 inches of snow fell in Fargo.

Meteorologist Jim Kaiser says the heaviest band of snow stretched from the Lidgerwood area northeast through the Wahpeton-Breckenridge area toward Park Rapids where 8-12 inches of snow was common.

The weather service says locally heavier amounts of snow may have fallen along that line.

The storm should help the moisture deficit.

There was a half inch of water content in the snow, boosting Fargo's monthly level well above average, the first time that's happened in months.
