UND Volleyball Sweeps NDSU At Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse

UND improved to 9-10 overall with its first win over NDSU in Fargo since October 19, 1976.

FARGO - Ellen Krueger and Felicia Ulrich combined for 20 kills with only one error to lead North Dakota to a 25-19, 25-21, 25-22 sweep of North Dakota State in college women's volleyball Tuesday, Oct. 9.

Lexi Robinson added 13 kills and 10 digs for UND, which improved to 9-10 overall with its first win over NDSU in Fargo since October 19, 1976.

Brynn Joki and Megan Lambertson each had 10 kills for North Dakota State, which dropped to 7-12 overall. Jenni Fassbender had six kills and Lauren Cammack five for the Bison.

UND jumped out to a 7-1 and 5-1 leads in the first two sets and didn't trail until the middle of the second when Lambertson's back-to-back kills sparked a 5-1 Bison run.

UND trailed 21-19 in the second before closing with six straight points including three Bison attacking errors and a blocking error.

Fassbender had three kills to jump-start the Bison to their biggest lead of the night at 7-1 in the third set.

UND answered with its own 7-1 run to tie it at 11 - the first of seven ties down the stretch. A service ace by Lauren Clarke and a block by Nikki Husfeldt and Ronni Munkeby put UND ahead for good 20-18.

UND outhit NDSU .300 to .227, had a 51-36 advantage in kills and a 57-44 edge in digs. The Bison had a 5-3 edge in blocks with Lambertson and Carissa Whalen each making two solo stuffs.

Clarke led all players with 22 digs for UND and libero Andrea Henning had 14 digs for NDSU.

A season-high crowd of 1,413 was on hand for the third meeting between NDSU and UND as Division I opponents. It was the ninth largest BBF crowd and the 10th largest NDSU home crowd all-time.

North Dakota State returns to Summit League play at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, against Omaha. The Mavericks are 6-13 overall and 1-6 in the league heading into Friday's match at South Dakota State.
