SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Sioux Falls police officers issued more than 150 traffic citations and made 11 drunken driving arrests in an eight-hour weekend blitz in South Dakota's largest city.
There were 16 extra officers on patrol from 8 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Saturday with a focus on impaired driving, speeding and seat belt use.
Among the citations were 36 for speeding, 11 for not wearing a seatbelt, 10 for driving on a suspended or revoked license, and 48 for driving without proof of insurance.
Police Lt. Jerome Miller tells the newspaper that while the campaign was successful, he's still disappointed that there were so many violations.
