ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - A Minnesota state senator who shares a district with Rep. Kerry Gauthier, the lawmaker involved in a sex scandal with a 17-year-old boy, is urging Gauthier to skip a special session on flood relief for his district and surrounding areas.
Sen. Roger Reinert, a Duluth Democrat, said Wednesday that Gauthier would distract from the flood recovery effort.
Reinert says Gauthier instead could become a focus for majority Republicans, who might censure him or even block him from taking his seat in the House chamber. Reinert said he hopes Gauthier ``would take that day off.''
Gauthier, a Democrat from Duluth, has made no public comment since his liaison with the teen at a rest stop became public last week.
