The National Science Board is concerned about declines in state funding across the U.S. for major public research universities.

A new report says per student funding for the University of Minnesota dropped 24 percent between 2002 and 2010. NSB member Dr. Ray Bowen says policymakers need to make the U of M a greater priority.

Bowen says schools like the U of M produce the lion's share of our nation's Ph.Ds, entrepreneurs and researchers.
