GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) - A branch of the University of North Dakota's petroleum engineering program might expand into the state's oil patch.

President Robert Kelley said during his annual State of the University Address on Tuesday that the school's College of Engineering and Mines wants to offer a bachelor's degree in the west with help from Williston State College. UND is likely to seek funding help from the Legislature next year.

Kelley in his speech also acknowledged the college's new geology school, made possible by a $10 million gift earlier this year from Continental Resources Inc. and CEO Harold Hamm, one of the nation's wealthiest men.
