N.D. Man Accused Of Offering $3,000 Bribe To Trooper

A North Dakota man is accused of offering a Highway Patrol trooper up to $3,000 to let him go after he was arrested for drunken driving.

 

 

 

 

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - A North Dakota man is accused of offering a Highway Patrol trooper up to $3,000 to let him go after he was arrested for drunken driving.

Matthew Hystad, 27, of Mandan, is charged with Class C felony bribery. He has not been asked to enter a plea.

Authorities say Hystad was initially pulled over for driving 72 mph in a 55 mph zone. He was then arrested for driving under the influence.

Court documents show that Hystad first offered trooper Derek Arndt $2,000 to let him go and later upped the proposal to $3,000.

Hystad pleaded guilty Friday to drunken driving. He was sentenced to five days in jail.
