RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - A prosecutor in Pennington County is proposing changes to South Dakota fireworks laws.
Cities can ban the use and sale of fireworks at will, but counties can ban them only if the fire danger is considered extreme. Deputy State's Attorney Jay Alderman says parts of a county might be in the extreme category while other parts might not be, making it difficult for law officers.
Pennington County commissioners are considering supporting legislation that would give counties the right to ban fireworks outright.
