SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - National Weather Service offices in South Dakota have new radar equipment that will help meteorologists do a better job tracking the weather and informing the public.
Offices in Aberdeen, Rapid City and Sioux Falls got the upgrades. Sioux Falls Meteorologist Philip Schumacher says that the new radar makes it easier to see what it is inside storms and clouds by showing a two-dimensional view.
The upgrades are being done at National Weather Service offices and Defense Department facilities around the country. Schumacher says the federal government will spend about $50 million on the effort.
