Bismarck Planning To Crack Down On Panhandlers

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - Officials in North Dakota's capital city plan to crack down on panhandlers.

Bismarck City Attorney Charlie Whitman says the city has been getting more complaints about aggressive panhandlers. He says a proposed ordinance would keep panhandlers away from ATMs, traffic, downtown areas and schools.

Fines for panhandling offenses would range from $50 to $500.

Mayor John Warford says the proposal is modeled after an ordinance adopted by Fargo. A public hearing is set for Oct. 9.
