DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) - A western North Dakota city in the middle of the state's thriving oil patch has come up with a new way to dole out a liquor license.

Dickinson officials are auctioning off the next permit.

Bidding on the city's 17th liquor license is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. today.

The minimum offer is set at $185,000.

City officials decided to add another license after a grocery store chain asked about a license for a liquor store it plans to build.

City Administrator Shawn Kessel says some people believe the winning bid could be more than $300,000.
