BELFIELD, N.D. (AP) - Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad will cut overgrown grass and weeds along its track after officials in the western North Dakota city of Belfield complained that the vegetation is creating a fire danger.
Belfield City Auditor Cindy Ewoniuk mailed a letter to BNSF's property tax department in Fort Worth, Texas, a month ago after people living near the tracks complained.
Ewoniuk says the weeds and tall grass are not attractive, and sparks from passing trains could cause a fire.
BNSF official Amy McBeth says she has contacted a railroad official in the area, and he has notified the city that the foliage will be cut.
