A Hawley, Minn. man has been charged with criminal sexual conduct and felony domestic assault.

Clay County Sheriff Bill Bergquist said 28-year-old James Michael Hanson was traveling with a woman near Rollag, Minn., demanded a sexual favor, ripped the woman's shirt and displayed a knife. Bergquist said there was a struggle, the woman threw the knife out the window and the car careened out of control.

"It appeared that they were headed back to possibly the location where he lives," said Bergquist. "This did start happening in the vehicle on the way there, which ended up, the vehicle going into the ditch and us getting a call."

The complaint said after Hanson tried to assault the woman a second time, she crawled back inside the car and called 911.

Hanson has previous assault convictions dating back to 2002.
