FARGO - The work might be 3 years out, but business owners along a stretch of University drive in South Fargo are protesting possible road expansion.

Metrocog is looking at widening University from 3 to 6 lanes from 13th to 18th avenues. Joe Omodt, of Luna Coffee, says the plan would take away valuable parking. He says the construction alone would be tough on business.

Luna Coffee and other businesses in the South Plaza and Southside Shopping Center are asking customers to sign petitions that encourage the city commission to drop the idea.

Metrocog's Wade Kline says they're working hard with the businesses to find a compromise.

City commissioners will take a look at the issue later this month.
