North Dakota Democratic Senate candidate Heidi Heitkamp hosted a forum at a Cass County farm Saturday to discuss the need for the Senate's version of the farm bill.
Heitkamp invited Michigan Senator Debbie Stabenow to join her. Stabenow is the Senate Agriculture Committee Chairwoman.
Stabenow helped the 2012 farm bill through the Senate but says it still has a long way to go.
Heitkamp is frustrated that House Republicans haven't passed the bill. She says the House version is inadequate to meet the needs of producers facing losses because of the drought.
Stabenow says she predicts the House will send back a farm bill the senate will not accept. She says the House and Senate leadership will have to sit down and work out a plan for the bill.
