Bismarck, N.D. (AP)  The State Public Service Commission says North Dakota's strong harvest has resulted in a record amount of grain storage licensed this year.

The total licensed capacity stood at 379.8 million bushels last week, breaking the record of 368.1 million bushels for the same time a year ago.

Officials say North Dakota has 389 licensed grain facilities, which is seven fewer than a year ago.

All grain storage in the state must be licensed, bonded and insured to protect farmers if a facility becomes insolvent or suffers a disaster. That includes temporary storage, such as when grain is piled on the ground due to a lack of bin space.
