The Senate Armed Services Committee has approved continued use of the C-27 transport cargo fleet in a new defense authorization bill. That is good news for Fargo's 119th Air National Guard wing, which stood to be the only Air Guard unit in the country without a flying mission after the Air Force said it would scrap the transport.
"I'm cautiously optimistic that we're going to maintain a manned flying mission in Fargo and the C-27," said Paul Weaver, a Washington lobbyist hired to help retain a mission at the Fargo base.
The Happy Hooligans are in line to start receiving the first C-27's in late 2012.
Differences in the Senate panel's budget must still worked out with the House version.
