A former Assistant Cass County State's Attorney has been suspended from practicing law for three-years.

The North Dakota Supreme Court says a lengthy suspension is warranted for Milnor Attorney Trent Mahler because he charged a couple a higher hourly rate than he said he would, and didn't talk to his clients in a timely manner.

Mahler must also pay $2,500 in restitution and $500 in disciplinary expenses.

Mahler does not have a law license right now, because he was late in taking continuing education classes.
