North Dakota is leading the way when it comes to a warming trend spreading across the nation.

NDSU Climatologist Adnan Akyus said that since 1970, temperatures across the U.S. have been rising. In North Dakota, the temperatures have been rising since 1890.

The state's climate has warmed .26 degrees per decade, the largest warming trend in the U.S.

The trend is having a big impact on the largest industry in the state.

"Since the climate change allowed temperatures to be rising rather rapidly in North Dakota, now we accumlate more growing days for corn to mature," said Akyus.

A local agronomist said even though the heat is making crops faster, it is also drying up the soil.
