North Dakota Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem said new figures indicate North Dakota's crime rate is on the rise.

Stenehjem, who plans to release North Dakota's annual crime report next Monday, gave a preview to KFGO News.

"The headline is that crime is up," said Stenehjem. "Certainly in the oil patch it's up, but the population is up, too. What we have to be careful to do is to correlate the increase in the population so we're not skewing the information. It's going to show we have some problems."

Stenehjem says he is particularly concerned about aggravated assaults and domestic violence. Stenehjem said assault numbers are up all across the state, not just in the oil patch.
