Two Moorhead police officers have been honored for subduing a suicidal man who attacked them with a shovel.
Police Chief Dave Ebinger said Josh Schroeder and Trent Bachman used a taser and pepper spray and then subdued the man, who was taken to a mental health facility.
"We had a young man who had threatened his family members, who had threatened other persons in this apartment complex with knives and a large, pointed-edge shovel," said Ebinger. "Glass was broken, people were running around, including children, family members were there trying to get this individual under control unsuccessfully, and we had two officers who had to intervene. It takes poise, it takes composure and it takes courage to act the way these two gentlemen did."
Schroeder and Bachman are the first Moorhead officers to receive the Medal of Valor Service Award.
