After reaching impasse following several weeks of negotiations on a new contract, union workers at the Supervalu Distribution Center in north Fargo went on strike at 6 a.m. Monday. Teamsters local spokesman Donnie Walz told KFGO News that by 8 a.m., the company called with some changes. The two sides then met, the union voted and agreed to the new contract.

No specific information was provided, but Walz said they are pleased.

"We took and moved some money around to get to the situation where we could accept a two year agreement," said Walz. "I think there was a little bit of a compromise on both sides, although they did a lot of the adjusting for us. Obviously, at the end of the day we walked out, we would have loved to have more and they would have loved for us to have less."

The union has traditionally had a three year contract.

A company spokesman said the new agreement includes an increase in wages, healthcare coverage at very little cost to employees and continued to offer a pension plan that is free to participants.

The Fargo facility supplies hundreds of grocery stores across North and South Dakota and northwest Minnesota.
