FARGO, N.D. (AP) - Duaine Espegard is the new president of the North Dakota Board of Higher Education.
Espegard is a retired Grand Forks banker and former state lawmaker. He has been on the board since March 2007.
He succeeds Grant Shaft, also of Grand Forks. He'll take office July 1.
Espegard says he believes the system is in good shape but believes it can be improved. He says he's looking forward to moving the board "to the next phase of higher education."
Kirsten Diederich, of Fargo, was named vice president of the board Thursday.
The Board of Higher Education has eight voting members. It oversees North Dakota's university system.
