West Fargo city commissioners have voted to move ahead with a feasibility study to determine whether to build a community aquatic center.

The study will look a way to pay for building the facility and its on-going operations.

Among the suggestions are to ask voters to approve a half-cent city sales tax, private fundraising and contributions from the school and park districts.

City Administrator Jim Brownlee said a new facility could replace the current pools.

"The Veterans (Memorial) Pool is old and its been on its last legs for several years, so they are looking to replace that pool," said Brownlee. "The (L.E.) Berger Pool, again for competitive swimming, is not adequate for the needs of the competitive swimmers, so they're looking to replace that one. So both of those I would imagine would close."

The aquatic center would be built next to new schools off of 26th Avenue East and 4th Street.

The $60,000 feasibility study will be conducted by the city, school district and park district.

The school board will vote on approving the study next week. The park board already approved the proposal.
