A federal lawsuit has been filed in connection with a law enforcement-related shooting in Fergus Falls, Minn.

Lawyers for Christian White say Pope County Deputy Gary Wold used excessive force when he shot White during a traffic stop in February 2009.

Court documents say Wold was in Fergus Falls to drop off a detox patient. During a traffic stop, White allegedly pointed what appeared to be a gun. Wold fired two shots, one of the shots hit White in the foot.

The lawsuit calls the shooting an "unprovoked attack" because White was never armed.

White is suing Wold and the Otter Tail and Pope County Sheriff's Departments. He is claiming damages in excess of $100,000.
