State Issues Order Against Fargo Agent

Insurance Commissioner Adam Hamm has ordered a Fargo-based insurance agent and his agency to stop doing business in the state.

 

 

 

 

Insurance Commissioner Adam Hamm has ordered a Fargo-based insurance agent and his agency to stop doing business in the state.

Hamm says Robert Schmitz and Schmitz Insurance Agency hasn't paid state and federal taxes, has mishandled premium payments and written bad checks.

The IRS has a lien against Schmitz for $371,000 while the North Dakota State Tax Department says it’s owed nearly $53,000. Hamm encourages anyone who's done business with Schmitz to contact their insurance companies to verify coverage.

Schmitz has the right to ask for a hearing within 30 days.

Schmitz Insurance Agency has offices in Fargo, Finley, Gardner and Stephen, Minn.
