Fargo Newspaper Debates Same-Sex Engagement Announcements

The Forum has found itself in the middle of the same-sex marriage debate with its decision to deny the publication of an engagement announcement submitted by two Fargo women.

 

 

 

 

FARGO - The Forum has found itself in the middle of the same-sex marriage debate with its decision to deny the publication of an engagement announcement submitted by two Fargo women.

They plan to be married in New York, where same-sex marriage is legal.

Newspaper Editor Matt Von Pinnon says the decision may not be final.

Allison Johnson and Kelsey Smith have picked up significant support through postings on the newspaper's Facebook site. But Von Pinnon, appearing on KFGO's Mike McFeely Show, says a good number of local subscribers support the paper's position that it not print same-sex engagement and marriage announcements.
