The Otter Tail County Sheriff's Department is investigating a Fourth of July boating accident on McDonald Lake that left an 18-year-old male seriously injured.

Nick Schmidt, who was the goalie for last season's state champion Fargo North Spartans, was hit by the propeller of a boat.

Detective Jon Karger told KFGO News that Schmidt had been tubing behind a boat on the north side of the lake at 4 p.m. and was waiting to be picked up when he was run over. The boat's driver said he lost control of the boat as he was turning around.

Schmidt, who was wearing a life jacket, was rescued by those in the boat and brought to shore.

Schmidt was taken to the Perham hospital and later taken by life flight to Sanford Medical Center in Fargo. He is in stable condition.
