The recent stretch of dry weather in Cass County is keeping the mosquito population down.
Cass County Vector Control Director Ben Prather said crews are out every day checking sites where they usually see a lot of mosquotes.
"A two, three, four inch rain storm or a couple of those events back-to-back, we're to be right where we were last year or previous years," said Prather. "It's nothing outside of the operating procedures for us. We have plans for all of these things. If we do have a big spike or we do have some major problems in the future, we're going to jump all over them and do absolutely everything we can do to try and make it a comfortable and disease-free summer."
Prather said the department is applying spray as needed to keep numbers down.
