GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) - Grand Forks officials are questioning new census estimates that show the city has lost population.
The U.S. Census Bureau figures show Grand Forks losing 207 people between the official census count of April 2010 and July 2011. The estimate is based on a formula using births, deaths and migration.
City Council President Hal Gershman said he is convinced the city is growing, based on such things as housing construction and vacancy rates. Local chamber of commerce President Barry Wilfahrt also says he doesn't think the Census estimates track with reality.
The Census estimates show growth in North Dakota's other large cities.
