A manager and secretary have been hired to handle the race weekends scheduled at the North Dakota Horse Park in Fargo.

The two have extensive backgrounds in the racing industry and will oversee the first races to be held at the track in two years.

Wes Heinert, president of the group that operates the track, said there will be no repeat of the financial problems that shut down the track and left it $150,000 in debt, bills that have since been paid off.

"We need about $18,000 per day to operate," said Heinert. "We got the money, we're covered, we just need to make sure we don't go over it. We don't want to get done and have to wonder how we are going to pay for things. We got the money in the bank, we just need to not go over it."

Heinert said they need 2,000 attendee's each day of the races scheduled July 14th and 15th and July 21st and 22nd.

Money from the North Dakota Racing Commission, horse owners and other sources have produced what organizers say are good purses to draw horses.

Costs of getting the track ready and operating the four days of races is estimated at about $100,000.
