PSC Completes Second Work Session On Power Line Project

North Dakota Public Service Commissioner Brian Kalk said it's taking time but issues about the corridor and route of a high voltage line in the Fargo area are being resolved.

Kalk said some routing concerns have been worked out while others have not.

"It looks like most of the concerns have been addressed," said Kalk. "The re-routes around the air field, there were some concerns with the city of Mapleton about some of the towers that would come close to the city, and those appear to have been worked out. Now we're just making sure that all the cities come back and they haven't found anything that they shouldn't have found. We're looking at just exactly the right language we want to have and make sure we do all the right things as we finalize and get closer to a decision."

An issue to be resolved includes landowners south of Fargo who want the lines route changed because of the impact it would have on their homes, farms and businesses.

Xcel Energy said it moved the line there because of the proposed Red River diversion project.

Kalk expects a decision on the route by mid-July.
