North Dakota’s oil industry has broken another record as the state now has 213 drilling rigs in production, the highest number yet in the Bakken boom.
David Hobbs, an energy analyst, said this is one of the biggest oil booms in history.
"We were looking at some growth rates, and over the last few years, the Bakken has been growing at 50 to 55 percent per year," said Hobbs. "That is phenomenally quick compared to many basins, but just to put it into context, the speed of increase in the Bakken is not without of precedent, but it would certainly make the top 10 plays on ESPN if they were the Energy Sports Network."
Hobbs spoke at the Williston Basin Petroleum Conference in Bismarck. The conference continues Thursday.
