Governor Dalrymple says the state of North Dakota and the City of Fargo need to keep the pressure on Congress to come up with the money for the Red River diversion.

City Administrator Pat Zavoral told the Industrial Commission current estimates put the cost of the project at $1.8 billion.

Dalrymple said he is confident that the federal money will come through.

"I believe that it is very high on their list," said Dalrymple. "I think the engineers feel that this is a good project from an engineering standpoint. I don't think we should be talking about them doing less than their fair share."

Despite this week's narrow passage of a half-cent sales tax extension in Fargo, Zavoral said he is hoping that the state will cover half of the local share of the diversion.
