The Minnesota Reading Corps program is looking for 1,000 people to participate in their reading program.
Director Kathy Salzman said the program has been so successful, it's being expanded for the coming school year.
"The Minnesota Reading Corps is the largest state AmeriCorps program in the country," said Salzman. "Next year, we're going to be having 1,000 people from our communities stepping forward to give a year of national service to tutor children in reading."
According to Salzman, reading proficiency for third graders jumped from 69 percent to 80 percent under the program.
More information on the tutor program can be found on the Minnesota Reading Corps website.
