The latest consumer and business indicators carry good news for Minnesota's economy.

At the University of St. Thomas, Dave Brennan tracks the state's economic trends. Brennan said even the weather is helping with Minnesota's all-important farm sector.

"It's definitely perking up after going through the drought," said Brennan. "Now we've had very substantial rains, especially in southwestern Minnesota, which is a prime area for corn growing, so that's a real plus."

Brennan said sales of durable goods such as cars are staying healthy.

Brennan said another sector showing "signs of life" is real estate development.

"I think Minnesota is going to continue to out-perform the nation as a whole," said Brennan. "We can see that in some of the real estate that is being developed. We can take a look in terms of offices, some manufacturing and we can take a look at apartments. All those areas are showing some signs of life."

According to Brennan, Minnesota retailing has a few soft spots but the recovery looks good overall.
