The Grand Forks Alerus Center is reporting a surplus of cash and has started plans to promote itself as a national contender for conventions and events.

The Alerus is projecting a surplus of nearly half a million dollars.

Attendance is up 40,000 people at conferences over this time last year.

The University of North Dakota Athletic Director Brian Faison also expects a big increase in attendance for football at the Alerus; as fans become accustomed to their new, division one opponents.

Alerus Center officials are now planning a $100,000 marketing campaign to promote it for more events.

Spokeswoman Cheryl Swanson isn't naming a name yet, but she says it appears that they've landed a world class concert act to appear at the Alerus, later this year.
