The Mayport Farmers Co-op Elevator wants to expand, and that has some Mayville citizens worried about the amount of debris and dust from the elevator.

Jeff Bachmeier lives across the street from the elevator. Bachmeier purchased a full-page ad in the Grand Forks Herald, posting a letter from the citizens of Mayville to the board of directors, asking them to be a good neighbor and make needed changes to the facility.

"It's a health issue to us," said Bachmeier. "So we would like that addressed."

Bachmeier is not alone in his concerns. With the board of directors seeking expansion, others in the neighborhood, including Gudrun Harstad, are speaking out against the plan.

"I just wish that the elevator had been built out in the country in the first place so we wouldn't have this," said Harstad.

The elevator wants to add two additional silos. The permits for the expansion have just recently been submitted. The mayor says no permits have been granted, and they need to work through the process.
