BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - Secretary of State Al Jaeger wants to hire three workers to help process a big increase in business registrations and paperwork.

Jaeger has filed a request with North Dakota's Emergency Commission. It will need approval by the commission and a separate North Dakota legislative committee called the Budget Section.

Jaeger says since last July, business registrations have gone up 55 percent.

He says some of the paperwork increase is from western North Dakota's oil boom, but there's also demand from other parts of the state.

Jaeger recently shortened his public office hours to give employees uninterrupted time to handle paperwork. The office is open from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Jaeger says the shortened hours will continue. He says it's helped to cut down the turnaround time on registration requests.
