The Fargo Police Department is asking residents not to chase a young bull moose that has been spotted in Fargo.

The moose was first observed April 27th near Reilles Acres has since moved into north Fargo. Police have been making sure the animal stays off of Interstate 29 and away from traffic on 12th Avenue.

Lt. Joel Vettel said there have been reports of children chasing the moose, which is dangerous.

"They aren't intending to harm anybody," said Vettel. "They are just here when somebody takes and tries to antagonize them, especially when it's an intentional act and that causes that person to be injured as a result of them teasing the animal, that is certainly tragic because often times we end up putting the animal down."

The North Dakota Game and Fish Department said that chasing and harassing wildlife is a Class C misdemeanor. Violators could also be charged under city ordinances.
