Beginning next week, Fargo residents will be able to recycle more items.
All plastic containers with the numbers 1-7 will be accepted. Cereal, soda and shoe boxes can also be recycled, along with corrugated cardboard.
Brady Brunsvold, recycling coordinator, said fast food containers, Styrofoam, waxed boxes and microwaveable meal boxes with metal in them are still off-limits.
"It definitely comes down to cost," said Brunsvold. "The fact of the matter is, we work with a contractor, Minnkota Recycling, and they recycling things to sell it as a commodity. If it's a lower quality product, some of the higher number plastics, they're not worth as much therefore they cost more to recycle. So it does come down to how much can we afford and how much can we justify to recycle."
More information on the new recyclable products is available at www.fargorecycles.com.
