The U.S. House Of Representatives will soon debate a new Farm Bill passed by the Senate.

The bill includes many significant changes, including the end of direct payments to farmers. The money would be diverted to crop insurance.

The bill also largely protects sugar growers. Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar says that aspect, as well as the bill's cost-effectiveness, is what makes it a strong bill.

"We all worked incredibly hard in North Dakota and Minnesota to make sure that we have the sugar program in place," said Klobuchar. "There were all kinds of people trying to strip it out."

North Dakota Senator John Hoeven said the bill will create jobs and reduce the deficit.

"A lot of strengths, more work to do, but now we go to the House," said Hoeven. "It's important we get this done for our farmers and for all Americans who benefit from the highest quality, lowest cost food supply in the world produced by our farmers and ranchers."

The bill includes over $23 billion in spending cuts.

The current bill will expire in September.
