One person is dead and another was injured following a Tuesday night fire in an apartment building in Fergus Falls, Minn.

The deadly apartment fire took place at the Sunrise Apartments around 9:30 p.m.

Fire Chief Mark Hovland said when crews arrived on-scene, fire was boiling out of a main floor apartment and started spreading to the second floor.

"We did have some explosions come out of the apartment," said Hovland. "We believe that there were oxygen tanks in the apartment and we do have a fatality at the fire."

The injured person tried to re-enter the burning apartment and was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.

KFGO's Gary Rogers said an investigator from the state fire marshal's office arrived on-scene early Wednesday morning and spent about three hours looking for the cause. It is not yet known if the investigator made any determinations about what led to the fire.

The victim, a woman, has not been identified.

All residents of the 25 unit building were displaced for the night. The Red Cross and Salvation Army are providing assistance.
