An Assistant Clay County Attorney will now be a judge for the region.
Governor Dayton has appointed Michelle Winkis Lawson to the 7th Judicial District.
She is the Chief Assistant Attorney for the Civil Division and has served as the Interim Clay County Attorney.
Minnesota's 7th Judicial District consists of Becker, Benton, Clay, Douglas, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Otter Tail, Stearns, Todd and Wadena counties.
Lawson's chamber will be in Moorhead. She replaces Michael Kirk who was appointed to the Minnesota Court of Appeals this year.
