Hamm Wins Second Term As North Dakota Insurance Commissioner

Republican Adam Hamm has been elected to a second term as North Dakota's top insurance regulator.

 

 

 

 

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - Republican Adam Hamm has been elected to a second term as North Dakota's top insurance regulator.

The 41-year-old defeated Democrat Tom Potter on Tuesday. Potter is a retired University of North Dakota finance professor from Grand Forks.

Hamm is a former Fargo attorney and Cass County prosecutor. He was appointed insurance commissioner in 2007 after Republican Jim Poolman resigned. He won his first full term four years ago when he defeated former Fargo Democratic state Rep. Jasper Schneider.

As insurance commissioner, Hamm is in charge of monitoring the implementation of the new federal health care law in North Dakota. Hamm has been critical of the law and says it's likely to drive up the cost of health insurance.
